  • 2003/9/5 Glorious Morning

Here are some more past pictures of a perennial vine called Ipomea that I first fell in love with at our neighborhood in Shinjuku.  It was always covered with these lovely blue/purple flowers.  I even went back and took some cuttings to try to get them to root.  I managed, but was also happy to find the same plant sold in a flower shop in the new neighborhood.  These did much better.  They are not doing too well at present, because dotter forgets to water them, but they are still alive, a testimony to their hardiness.

2003/9/5  These are from last night and this morning.  See the seven buds ready to bloom?

2008 Edit:  These pictures were taken during the first year that we had this plant.  During the first year we had plenty of flowers, but after that just a lot of vines.  Perhaps more fertilizer is needed.  I also like to let the vines entwine themselves all over the veranda fencing, but when a typhoon comes through we have to unwind it all and move it to a safer place.  I should say that I have to unwind it all.  Hubby's solution to every problem involves either duct tape or scissors.

More from Sept. 2003:  Here are more pictures from last night of an "evening glory" or yuugao.  I had seen it getting ready to flower, but did not expect such a big bloom so soon, and was glad that I had not missed the show, as it had shriveled by morning.
