  • Noborito Station Swallows 5/29/2004

I witnessed this scene this afternoon on the Nambu Line's Noborito Station Platform. The picture was taken with my phone camera, so the quality could certainly be better. Perhaps the fact that as I snapped the picture the doors of the train that I wanted to catch were shuttering as well. It is swallow nesting season, and this feathered family's dwelling dangles over the platform. I suppose this solution keeps everyone happy. I may go back again today with a better camera.

My dad always said if it is worth doing, it is worth doing right, so here it is, Noborito Station done right. Another girl was there taking pictures, too, saying that the train station might be doing a thriving business, as there is a superstition that it is good luck to have swallows building their nests on a premises. This is probably why this feathered family is being tolerated and pampered, which kind of brings me warm fuzzies. The lighting in these pictures was a bit difficult, as the birds are in the shadows. I had to lighten, but not so much as to bleach out the rest of the picture and also cropped a bit. I find it hard to believe that I am spending a couple of hours cropping crap, but I think the effort is worth it. So much for my sense of priorities.
