Aki said that he noticed from the Keio Line commuter train that many higanbana were blooming on the riverbank of the Tama River, so we decided to get off at the Inadadzutsumi Station and go down to the riverbank for a closer look.

For those of you who remember the fireworks pictures of last summer, this is the same train bridge, opposite riverbank.

The higanbana bloomed again this year around September 15th. How do they do it? Lord only knows, and I do mean that literally! They appear on single stems from nowhere without any leafy warning, and whither away just as quickly. I always love this brief, brightly colored announcement of the arrival of fall. I know these are alot of close-ups, but I never get bored looking at them.
