April 28, 2006 Yoshida Brothers
I went to a concert by the Yoshida Brothers last night. Thanks for coming, Shusaku! These are a couple of shamisen rockers who are quite popular. They played without their band, which was actually probably more interesting, because you could actually hear some of their more technical traditional stuff. All in all a very nice concert. They played their last encore unaided by microphones, and they actually sounded even better electrically unenhanced. There is only so much that you can do on three strings, but the fingers flew and the time passed too quickly. I had been wanting to check out one of their CDs for quite some time, and last night I broke down and picked one up. Gotta go and listen.
