  • Excellent post by revsteve today. Click to have a read!

Yep, screamy is how I feel!  We have a few things wrong with the TV, but it is still very watchable.  The picture tube is sometimes purple at the bottom corner since we moved to our present abode three years ago, the satellite channel innards don't work so we watch satellite broadcast via the video deck, and the on/off switch doesn't work so we have it permanentely pushed in with a wooden block and duct tape.  If you don't tape it just right, the TV will turn inself on and off at will.  Content aside, the thing is still quite watchable, but Hubby has declared that we are getting a new flat screen job, and there is nothing I can do to stop him.  Mrs. Compukermann, I cannot throw myself in front of "the truck" anymore, so I might as well get in.  You know how that is.  He says that we are going out to look at new TVs today and he will make the final decision and purchase by himself tomorrow.  He always does that when he is getting something that I think he does not need, like the time he bought that cashmere coat that I have declared that he will wear for the remainder of his days and be buried in.  And then daughter Ei says after he gets the thing he will say, "Shimatta," which means, "I blew it."  He always does that, too.

Here is the still perfectly viewable contraption.  There is even a hole cut in the duct tape so the remote control will work if you are close enough.

Yukinori makes his final steps towards getting his own place today.

Later - the deed is done and will be delivered tomorrow.  The first place we looked was having a nice sale so Hub snapped the thing up, because he did not think that he would find any better price anywhere else.  I asked him if the delivery men were gonna take the old TV away, because sometimes they will do that for you, but Hub sez, "Why should we have them take it when we can still watch it?"  I gently smacked him.

  • If you were in the USA right now everything would be on sale as it is labor day weekend.  Happy shopping.  You will all enjoy the new set and you must always remember that as soon as you buy the best one available, they will come out with something better.  Confidentially I think it sounds as though it is time for a new set.

  • He hoards CDs and underwear, but I know all about those.  The worst CD  he has is Strauss' Salome, and that is better to listen to than Strauss' Electra.  I think we got a good price on the TV because the store was clearing the shelf space for new stuff coming in, but like I said, contentwise I don't spend too much time in front of the TV screen.  Now the computer screen is a different story!
Hoarding...  I just taught the pilgrim that word yesterday, and then made him pronounce "The hoarding herd was hard of hearing.  He wrestled with it for awhile and them managed it.  Japanese have a hard time with all of the vowels that we are heard to hoard.
