  • Today's project is getting my driver's license renewed.

Here is the completed green tree.  The ladeez at my Tokyo church make them every year for the Christmas bazaar, except they put felt decorations on them.  I am lazy and just thread beads on the yarn and weave them into the thing.  Never could follow instructions.  First you crochet a cone with a bunch of loops on it, and then crochet on the branches.  I can't crochet in English because I learned how to do most of it in Japanese.  If I look at English directions it just all looks like it's encoded.

I'm kind of glad that I found the church building yesterday even if nobody was there at the moment.  I really don't know another soul in this city besides hub and the lady at the cleaner's, and I have a bit too much time on my hands.  When the kids were small there were at least networks of people - PTA duties at school and stuff like that, but I am well past that age.  Ok, let's look at the good side of that - at least I don't have to worry about grades, homework and entrance exams anymore.  No, I don't wish that part of it back!  So instead of sitting and whining I suppose that I have to go out and find something or create something.  This requires effort and self discipline.  And considering the possible alternative to being in Fukuoka I should be glad to be here and be enjoying relative peace and quiet, pun intended.

Later:  The driver's lisence has been renewed.  I am very glad that I decided not to go get it renewed by bicycle.  The office was two miles away from the nearest train station, but I was able to find a bus that would take me there.  It was a forty five minute ride over unfamiliar roads and as much as I like cycling, it would have been quite a challenge.
