  • Feb. 14, 2009 Jindaiji

One weekend while trying to decide on a Fukuokian "go somewhere" we said that if it would be nice if we could go to Jindaiji.  The only trouble with that is that Jindaiji is in Tokyo, so while we were there in February it was to Jindaiji we went!  These are just a bunch of random pictures of the scenery.

A girl was walking her cat and dog, and the "pair look" was creating a pet fashion stir sufficient to attract shutterbugs, myself included.

    kitaro800

This is from the street leading up to Jindai Temple.  It has a "Kitaro" ghostly cartoon character theme.  You can see Kitaro himself at the base of the tree on the right.

In case you have not made his acquaintance, Daddy Eyeball or Medama Oyaji, seen taking a bath in a soup bowl has his own line of eyeball snacks made of glutinous rice and azuki beans.  One has been cut in half for your viewing pleasure.

    Sobaya800

Here is a local soba buckwheat noodle shop.  It kind of feels like we have time slipped to a couple hundred years ago.

    Turtles800

Here is a small shrine with turtles relaxing in the sun.  Why do they all face the same direction?

There is one tea shop that always has an umbrella/parasol out, and the umbrella is always in less than satisfactory shape, but this does not seem to bother the proprietor.  This is probably the second umbrella he has put up in the last 15 or so years.  It is nice to know that some things never change.

    Vase800

There is also a small pottery shop.  This vase was made on the premises, and I found something irresistible about its earthiness.  Hubby said it looked a little too earthy as in "night soil," but I just couldn't leave it behind, especially after his evaluation.  I am strange like that...  Haha!
