Back from Kagoshima and two days of cutting back the jungle in Grandma's garden.  We sent the tigers to the zoo. We both got et up by bedbugs this time, and hubby doesn't even have the decency to itch.  He has all the spots but isn't scratching.  I am not as bad off the as the first time and the over the counter medication seems to be working quite nicely.  One helpful website suggested encircling one's futon with a strip of double sided tape or sleeping on the kitchen table.  Next time we go we are gonna set off a bug smoke bomb!  Hakata Dontaku is tomorrow.  This is a town parade with local marching bands.  I will see if I can drag myself.  Right now I am gonna go and collapse.

The Garden after Weeding - We still need to take out more.

I was going to take this out until I took a closer look and decided to leave it there.

We took out about 15 large bags of vegetation!  I don't think we can keep this up every month.

The local volcano can also be seen from the pick-up area and the second floor of Grandma's house.  Yes, it is spewing a bit of ash.

I took out everything that had grown outside the fence.  Pretty neat, huh?  The tree without leaves and the hedges have been eaten by kiobi-edashaku larvae.  We poison them every month, but they are pretty hardy.

Dern bedbugs.  Gonna get their butts next trip.  My arm is much better, Mrs. Compukerman, don't worry.

  • The garden looks great but I think you need a full time gardener. How did Bachan manage it when she was there? What evil plans do you have for the bedbugs? It looks as though they really love you. Is there a service where they come and tent the house while the extermination is done? You seem to have a real infestation there. I would not stay there until it was done. Who knows what germs they carry? Glad to know your arm is better.

  • @Gramcface - Aki got bitten too, but didn't have the decency to itch.  Bachan used to go out every morning and mess around in her garden, and if one does it a bit at a time I imagine that things would stay under control, but she has not really been able to do anything for the last few years.  I felt bad to rip out all those flowering plants, but we just can't manage it all.  I am gonna set off smoke bombs in her house.  Sad to think that she can't come back there anymore.  It is just too dangerous and would be an unmanagable situation.

  • My mom cannot cut her grass (lots of grass, LOTS of grass) so my husband hired a fellow to do it. He did not do such a great job, so the job is back in our lap. I love to cut the grass, but there is no time anymore. I feel for your pain, because if we can't keep up with the elders property and ours falls into neglect, and we fall into poor health, what's it all for?
The photos are great, thanks! And, I will take the bedbug warnings serious! Wow! Are they common there?
