  • I read in the news that a Florida mother was charged with child endangerment after leaving her baby in a car with the windows rolled up while she did her shopping.  It reminds me of something that happened in out Tokyo neighborhood last weekend.  We heard the anti-theft protection device of a car beeping twice, and then a kid repeatedly screaming "MAAAAMAAAAAAAA!" at the top of his lungs.  Hub and I and a couple of others went to check on the screamer, who turned out to be a kindergartener left in his family car after falling asleep.  He couldn't get out because of the noisy anti-theft device, and didn't know what to do.  The windows were rolled down a bit, so we asked him his name and where he lived, and a security person went up to get his parents.  A couple of minutes later the kid's older brother comes down with the car keys.  That made me a bit livid.  The parents are not only totally irresponsible to leave a kid asleep in a car, but they don't even have the guts to come down and face the beeping music.  We told older brother to go and get a PARENT.  I left before the lady who thinks she is qualified to bear the title of mother came out, because I knew that I would not be able to maintain a pleasant temperment.  The three other fellows there could say what needed to be said.  Idiot.
