Oct. 24 Nokonoshima
Today's "GO SOMEWHERE" is another trip to Nokonoshima Island, the one in the middle of Fukuoka Bay. This is our second trip there. I wanted to cure a case of shopper's regret and hubby found some other places that he wanted to explore. We take a ferry to the island, and then a bus to the far side that faces outside the bay.
We scooped up one of the last box lunches sold in the park and then sat down to eat and enjoy the scenery.
Fields of Cosmos
I fergit whacha call these.
There is a bunny petting zoo, but these are not very pettable. One little girl was lucky enough to catch a bunny to hold and it bit her. Well, bunnies can't really growl, so they communicate more directly. You can take in a basket of bread crusts to feed them, but this is not good, as it will eventually result in severe lagomorphic dental problems!!
Behold a bunular tail. It has bone in it, so it is not a cotton ball. We once had a bunny who decided her tail was itchy, so she chewed it down to the bone and we had to have her tail shortened and stitched at the vet's. Ouch.
Don't touch the bread of eventual death!!
More scenery
Next was the goat pen. There were not any idiots feeding the goats tissue this time.
Some of these moms had kids.
This is the billy goat pen, and the billys are being macho.
Hey, throw me down something to eat!!
There were some kind of Japanese Coast Guard exercises going on, with lots of ships and a helicopter.
Why is it everywhere Hubby takes me involves a mountain path?? At the top are the ruins of a historical kiln and a small museum.
Below is a diagram of the kiln, and the kiln itself.
Spider over Fukuoka
The Museum
Next stop was Shirahige Shrine. This is the site of festivities that take place on Nokonoshima Island.
The shrine's main building
Traditional Japanese carpentry puts pieces of wood together like a puzzle.
Scenery behind the shrine - goldenrod and harvested rice hung up to dry.
It's time to head back to the mainland, so we head for the harbor!
And here comes our ferry back to Fukuoka.

Beautiful pictures. Definitely wanna go to Japan someday.
awesomeawesomeawesome ('cept the spider.)
@Ufbad - They specialize in planting flowers at this park. They have nice coffee mugs, too!
@nepenthium - The spider is ok. They are a nice sign of fall.
@usalapinhazzer -
Giant spiders descending upon Japan from the sky? Man, and I thought all our trans-Pacific neighbors had to worry about were giant lizards...
