4/17/2010 Iizuka Tumulus Kofun
Today was a special day at the Iizuka Kofun in Chikuho. This ancient tomb was open to public view. This only happens once (or is it twice...) a year, and hubby wanted to go for a gander. There is a replica of this painted tomb inside the museum near the tomb, but today we got to see the real thing. It was quite dark inside, and we were not allowed to take flash pictures in order to protect the paintings.
This is the tomb entrance. They have special reception tables set up, and are also handing out cards stamped with the day and time of our official visit.
Hubby is one happy camper. We have to change our shoes for slippers before going inside.
There was also a flea market going on, but I didn't feel an itch to get anything.
