  • October 24, 2010 Tama Center Museum

There is a small museum a couple of stations away from us that houses historical artifacts from the Jomon Period (dated from about 14,000-300 B.C.) and also some later pieces found in the Tama area.

Here are some examples of Jomon fashion a la UniQlo.

How about this lovely backpack?  The tags explain that the jewelry is made of jade and wild boar teeth.

The designs were made with rolled rope, shells, sticks and other items.  Try a design yourself in soft clay.

Try your hand at reassembling the parts of an excavated pot!  And look at the UFO catcher for shards!  Dotter would LOVE this.

Here is a model of a primitive kiln in which roof tiles were baked.  This is probably later than the Jomon Period, like the 7th or 8th Century.

We can peek into a back room of the museum through a glass window to view the many pieces found in the Tama area.

Here is a prize piece, a figure dug up from near where we now live.  We are lucky enough to have a replica on display in the front hall.  It was lucky enough to survive the 2011 quake intact.

More Jomon fashion, pots, and another pot that was dug up in our area.
