January 7, 2011 Shinmoedake
This was taken at Kagoshima airport as we waited for a return plane to Tokyo. See that little puff of smoke in the distance?
This is the volcano Shinmoedake and in a couple of weeks it will be doing this.
Explosive shock waves were blowing out local windows and Miyazaki Prefecture to the east got very well dusted. Media attention was focused on that mess until the quake and tsunami that would happen on March 11.
