  • April 30, 2011 Ryumonji Kiln

We enjoyed out first visit to Ryumonji Kiln so much we decided that we had to take Dotter.

We start out from Kajiki Station again.

Everybody pose in front of Ryumonji Falls!

Here we are at the kiln!

Here is some of the earth that is made into clay for the pottery.

These cups are ready for firing.  My guess is that they will be tricolor, white with dripping green and ochre.

This is a gas kiln used in addition to the wood burning kiln built on a slope behind the shop.

The wood burning kiln located behind the sales showroom.  You can see it has several chambers.

The potter is taking a break.

These are various tools for measuring the dimensions of the pottery so that the sizes of the dishes are uniform.

A potter straining something, perhaps glaze or clay.

Let's take the train back to Kagoshima.

The volcano Sakurajima seems to be behaving itself today.
