    April 8, 2012  Kagoshima Uenohara

Kagoshima Ue no Hara is an indoor-outdoor museum located near Kagoshima Airport.  It had displays of cultural artifacts indoors and reconstructed ancient dwellings indoors.  The village was wiped out around 9,000 years ago by a volcanic eruption.

Here are some samples of the artifacts found in the area.

Replicas of some fancy ancient spoons made from sea shells.

Active Volcano Sakurajima in the distance.

Let's cross the bridge away from the museum building and head for the outdoor display.

Here is a replica of one of the ancient homes in the former village.

    Let's take a look inside.

The picture on the left is the ceiling.           Let's take a look outside from the inside.

Here is an actual excavation of part of the village and the remains of one of the homes.

All of these spots were house sites.
