Grades are due in the computer, and the student still has not turned in her missing homework. When I called her at her home last Thursday, she said she would turn the paper in today and I made a special trip in to get it, grade it and get the grade entered in the computer. She said that she would turn it in before first period and I left her a message to put it on my desk, but I went in before lunch and - nothing. Her homeroom teacher said that she would be in to see me at lunchtime, but she never showed up. I went to the classroom and asked her directly about the homework and she said, "Oh, I forgot." Well, can you do it now? "I don't have my book or paper." I will give you paper and lend you my book. "I have other things I have to do." Oh. You know, your grade was important to me, so I remembered you and made a special trip in to take care of this after contacting you at least three other times, and you tell me YOU FORGOT?? I consulted her homeroom teacher, yes, the altercation guy and not even he was on her side anymore. "Give her a zero," sez he.
I bent over backwards to accommodate this girl and she did absolutely nothing. It is clear how much she cares about her grade or my class or me personally. Now I even doubt that she ever actually handed in the homework as she claimed, but I STILL gave her the benefit of the doubt. She gets a high D instead of a low D. With a bit of effort she could have had a C.

Well, I guess in a sad sort of way, you were exonerated! Congratulations!
