  • Monet Exhibition

Today's "go somewhere" was the Museum of Western Art in Ueno to see an exhibition of Monet paintings. There were also works by some of his contemporaries. Here are some of my favorite pictures from today.

This is Picasso's Mother and Child by the Sea (1902). The painting itself is not all that great, but the thought that the tiny hand of the one that Mary is holding created the sea in the background and that the same hand would calm the waters of that same sea later. The rose that Mary is holding also speaks of sufferings to come.

This is a snowy scene by Monet, aptly titled Snow at Argenteuil(1875). It just seemed like a nice seasonal picture.

This is Still Life with a Basket of Fruit by de Heem (1654) and was part of the museum's permanant collection. We had something like this hanging in the dining room when I was in elementary school. I wonder what ever happened to it.
