  • Trip to Kagoshima

We are back from couple of daze in Kagoshima. The gardener who cleaned up the property last year had gotten most of the work done again this year, so there was nothing for us to do, thank goodness! It was strange that he had not quite finished and that he left some of his equipment. He came this morning and said that he was sorry that he had not gotten everything done and that his mother's funeral was yesterday. She was 92, so it was not unexpected, but still. Nothing to apologize for, and we were glad to be able to pay him right away.
Another project was going through some of Grandma's left behind clothes. She was a nice dresser and I did not like having to throw the stuff out, but it is of use to no one anymore. I went through the kimonos too, and ended up packing most of them in boxes and sending them to Tokyo. They are too nice to throw out, and maybe I can find new homes for them. It just seems like a tremendous waste to leave them in Kagoshima to molder and rot.
The local volcano also put on a nice messy show yesterday.
