Today's "GO SOMEWHERE" was Takao-san. We took the cable car up and tramped around the grounds of the temple up on the mountain. They were getting ready for the New Year up there. There were three fellows at the big incense burner in front of one of the buildings. Two of them bought bundles of incense, lit them and stood them in the burner as a preface to letting their requests be known to the temple god. The third man did not. When asked why, he said that it was enough to be thankful for what he had already and that he considered it inappropriate to ask for anything else. Interesting concept.
