  • Today we hung out our 鵙 bull headed shrike scroll to get some air. It is an official Miyamoto Musashi replica. Gotta get it back in the box. I took a picture of how to tie the string because I would never remember how to do it myself. Not knowing much about shrikes, or mozu in Japanese, I decided to look them up. EW. Behold a version of our scroll 枯木鳴鵙図. A mozu, or bull headed shrike is quite the hunter, and impales whatever it has caught on thorns to tear is apart more easily. That doodle bug moseying its way up that branch had better take care!

”This species is solitary except when breeding. They are found in open habitats where they can be seen sitting on a prominent perch like a treetop or a telegraph pole. A sit-and-wait hunter, they "hawk" or pounce on their prey, which includes large insects, small birds, reptiles and mammals. These birds use their feet to hold smaller insects whilst they rip them into bite-sized pieces. Larger prey are impaled upon a sharp point, such as a thorn or the barbs of barbed wire so they can be ripped open with the bird's hooked bill.” EW

Ya can't take me anywhere. We went shopping at the local supermarket, housewares and hardware all under one roof place and I was just about freaking out. Literally everywhere there were little ad screens hawking the wares on the shelves and prerecorded messages blaring out of cutesy smiling speakers. I caught one of the fish counter staff and asked him to turn down the noise because I was having difficulty holding a conversation with DH standing right next to me. It is information overload, with things demanding attention from all directions, and no one is even looking at them. Sorry, I just don't have that much attention to give, so shut up because my brain has shut down! It is like being in a crowded, raucous, roaring, screaming, blaring, bleating, bellowing Japanese department store basement. I freak out there, too, which is why I don't go.
