Jenufa
Today was opera day and the lovely story runs like this. Two half brothers are involved with their cousin (I think) Jenufa. The older one impregnates her and goes off to war and comes home a drunken bum. It is declared that in order to marry Jenufa he has to be sober for a year. But oops, the bun will be out of the oven by then. Younger brother really loves Jenufa, so much that he slices her cheek. Jenufa is then hidden away and has the baby while everyone thinks she is in Vienna. The woman who has hidden her thinks it would be best for all if the baby is removed from the story, so she drugs Jenufa with sleeping potion and gets rid of the baby. Older brother has plans to marry the mayor's daughter, and Jenufa decides to marry the younger brother. On the wedding day the baby's body is discovered and the real murderess confesses. Everybody spits on the older brother and everyone lives happily ever after (?).
