July 17, 2010 Nagasaki Ropeway
Today we are in Nagasaki. Let's begin the trip with a view of the entire city. We'll be going up the Nagasaki Ropeway from a station located at the Fuchi Shrine.
Let's get in!
Here is a map of where we are and what we will be viewing. We have arrived at the red point and will climb the stairs to the top of the round building to take some pictures of the city of Nagasaki.
I will be panning the camera from left to right. See the brick building just to the left of the center of the picture?
I will zoom in on that building. The brick building in the rear with the two domes is Urakami Tenshudo, a Catholic church that was damaged in the bombing of Nagasaki, but has since been rebuilt. Ground Zero was in this area.
I will continue panning to the right.
This is my favorite place in Nagasaki. Do you see the church the church with the light colored roof about in the middle of the opposite shore?
Can you see it now? Look to the right and you will see another smaller church. This is Oura Tenshudo, an old Catholic church and national treasure. We will go there tomorrow.
Continue panning.
And out to the ocean!
Back down the mountain.
As long as we have come back down to the shrine, let's take a look around.
This is a famous stone lantern that used to be located in Nagasaki Harbor, but it was later moved to its present location.
Now let's get on the tram and head over to a historical site, Dejima.
