  • Kagoshima and Hiwaki - May 22-25

We made a trip to Kagoshima just to make sure the property is all right, which it is. The gardener had been there and done a great job, so there was no yard work. The volcano Sakurajima is doing well, as you can see it doing its dusty thing.

After visiting the family grave site, DH's cousin M took us back to the Hiwaki homestead that her new hubby has turned into a paradise! The fellow is a retired cook and is as good at working magic in the garden as he is in the kitchen! I have never seen the old place look so good! Look at the feast he made for us. He wouldn't let me wash the dishes no matter how many times I insisted.

He reminds me of Adam tending the Garden of Eden! I have NEVER seen the place look SO GOOD!!

Outside he has made vegetable and flower gardens, fences, a greenhouse and even a barbecue pit and a pizza oven that you can see in the foreground. Next time we go we have been promised pizza. He studied the stone arched bridges at Ishibashi Park to get the arch building process just right!

Cousin S, unpredictable as weather, made a whirlwind stop to return some borrowed items and was gone as soon as she arrived, but we did manage to get in a hug or two.

The next day DH and I went to a concert put on by the Kagoshima Haydn Society, which was established by DH's high school music teacher, Morikawa Sensei. They all did a nice job. We were provided the text in Latin and Japanese for the second half of the program. My Japanese is much better than my Latin, but having the text did make it more interesting.

Before coming back to Tokyo we took a picture of what is in the freezer so we don't forget what we have to buy. We have some cakes, a bit of bread, sausages, eggs and coffee. Sonny B sent us a text message asking us where we were, which was on the plane set to return home. Apparently there had been some excitement in Tokyo that we missed. Nothing fell over, but I did have a few pictures to straighten. There is never a dull moment!
