I don't remember ever meeting Great Aunt Frances, but I do remember meeting some of her children.  I think that is her on the left with the big bow in her hair, next to Grandma Laverne on the right.

ESCANABA — Frances Mae Lindblad, 87, passed away Tuesday evening, May 27, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital.  She was born on Feb. 6, 1921, in Escanaba, the daughter of Alex and Anna (Ringstrand) Olson. Frances attended school in Escanaba and received her GED through Escanaba High School. She continued her education attending x-ray school, which was affiliated with Bay de Noc Community College, and graduated as a technician two years later.  The former Frances Mae Olson married Milton Lindblad and he preceded her in death.  Frances was employed with St. Francis Hospital as an x-ray technician, retiring in 1979 after 15 years of service. During Mrs. Lindblad’s years at St. Francis Hospital, she worked in the EKG department, given special radiation treatments under the direction of Dr. Theisen, and also performed many special x-ray procedures in the area of mammography and tomography. She received special training in mammography, sponsored through St. Francis Hospital, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Frances was the first to give a mammogram in Escanaba at St. Francis Hospital.  She was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church in Gladstone and enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines. Frances loved swimming and was still diving at the age of 80.  Among the survivors include her five children, Darlene Victorson of Elmhurst, Ill., John (Peg) Bergerson and Sandra (Richard) Dagenais, both of Escanaba, Ted (Susie) Bergerson of Modesto, Calif., and Debbie (Dwaine) Taylor of Escanaba; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight step grandchildren.  Frances was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milton; son, Charles Bergerson; stepson, Robert Lindblad; grandson, Benjamin Douglas; granddaughter, Cathy Hurkman; and sisters, Evelyn Palmateer, Leatrice Steinsultz, and LaVerne Hugo.  Visitation will be on Monday, June 2, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Gladstone with the funeral service to follow at 6 p.m. with Rev. Nathan Langager officiating.  A luncheon will follow the services in the church fellowship hall.  Burial will be in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.  The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Lindblad family with arrangements.

  • Aunt Frances was a wonderful and very strong and brave person.  Her life was not easy and her final years were filled with much pain and suffering due to her many surgeries.  Life for all of the Olson girls was not easy.  They were all made of the ability to cope with adversity.  Frances was loved by all who knew her and will be missed.  I believe that the young lady with the big bow was Evelyn.  Frances was younger and then came Leatrice.  Laverne went by the name of her second husband Dave Washburn but the people in Michigan would know who she was  as Hugo.  Now the circle is complete and all are at rest with our Savior.  How wonderful to be able to think of their happy reunion.
