March 28, 2009 - Fukuoka Zoo
Today's "go somewhere" was the zoo!
We took a back road to get in. Since we are in the middle of the city it was nice to be surrounded by green.
This chimp looks cold.
This gorilla is looking longingly at the door that open at dinnertime!
Now this gorilla has been around. It was born in a zoo in Spain, stayed at a Swedish zoo for awhile and then lived in Tokyo before coming to Fukuoka. I wonder how many languages it speaks.
A Portrait
A tapir rolls over for a nap.
Anybody wanna kiss sleeping beauty?
A fellow tapir makes his rounds. There is a saying in Japan that Tapirs eat dreams, and there was a pile of digested dreams left behind by one of them.
Oh, sorry, I just thought that the notion of digested dreams was an interesting one to play with.
運が付くかも知れない。
I am rather amazed that porcupines are not extinct. Multiplication definitely looks dangerous. Ouch!!
Posing for a Family Portrait
Monkey Mountain
It looks like the poor bald guy is trying to get warm.
This bunch was getting along famously, but suddenly screeching broke out for some reason.
The bigger monkey was involved in a project and kept pushing the little ones away.
Cherry trees in the hills around the zoo
Oh, this is closer than I want to be to a Rhinoceros!
This is a wild pig (inoshisi 猪) that runs wild in the Japanese mountains. I don't think I would like to meet one on a woody path. I have heard they can be nasty.
Ostrich, Zebra and Cherry Blossoms
A crane flies over.
This is another Japanese mountain "tsuki no wa" bear. There are also bigger brown bears here, but not at this zoo.
Another mountain scene
Peacocks
Bunz
My sweater needs washing!!
Nice wallpaper is a total waste of time in the hippo pen!!
