  • Dumb Bun

I didn't tell Ei yet so she won't worry and I think that things are under control.

Bunny was shedding profusely again so I took him out on the veranda to the usual table that I put him on to pull out the excess fur. Yes, there is that much, and it must be done to prevent him from plugging up his own innards. I mean, he just grew a whole new coat a couple of months ago and has to shed the entire thing again? WHATEVER. So I take him outside to remove the excess because there is just too much to have all that mess in the house.

So we are nearing the end of the session and bunny decides to walk around on the table which he never does. There is a hole in the middle to stick an umbrella, and since there was no umbrella there he decides to get his stupid foot stuck in the hole. And what is the solution for getting your stupid foot caught in a hole? Oh, yes, panic and try to RUN IN A STUPID CIRCLE. Hello stupid.... You know what happens when your foot is caught and you run in a circle? It isn't pretty.

So stupid is now in a cast and if we keep him eating he should be ok. I mean, doesn't it kind of hurt when one is twisting one's own stupid foot off? Why would anyone want to do that or think that it is the thing to do? Glad a cooperative vet is just down the street. Stupid will be in a cast for at least a month. it was not a clean break, so we will just wait and see what happens. No more animals for me because it takes too much energy to worry about them.

Bunny is eating, so he may be ok. I have ways to make him eat if he will not cooperate. If he has a limp he has a limp. He should be glad to still have a limb. The vet said that animals do fine on three legs.... Sheesh. I was grateful that his office consented to put the cast on. They had to anesthetize him to do that, and they were very wary of doing that because of his age, but I said that if he went to his eternal reward that was ok and at least we tried. They wanted to send him to the handsome specialist, but I would have had to wait until the next day with the poor leggy flopping and worsening the damage. Creeps me out just thinking about it. No, I wanted a cast on the leg "now" and was willing to take the risk. Plus, the specialist would probably "do it right" with rods, screws and whatever and charged me $1000, which is also stupid for such an old bun.

Later - Bun managed to kick his cast off in a week, but the bone shards knitted together somehow to give a functional leg. Thank God for a miracle. Bun has managed to live until 3/2020.
