  • Last Kagoshima Cleanup - Inside

These pictures were taken during a three day cleanup of the house in Kagoshima. This trip was to bring back any last items that we wanted from the house before selling it. All I wanted was a cup and a guitar that I had left down there, and DH wanted the ramma panels that were between the two Japanese style rooms. Many thanks to DH's cousin Sanae!! She was SUCH a great help! I can't thank her enough. She helped get the Rammas down and helped me pack them up, weeded out the jungle in the small garden, she and her hubby came and took all kinds of stuff away and then the next day she even made me a lunch and took me to the airport with the last things that we wanted from the house in Usuki.

The pictures are starting in an upstairs closet. Behold the desk where DH studied his little heart out through high school.

The following shots are some bedrooms up on the second floor.

This jar was a mystery, but we think it contained pickled plums and not pickled bones. The table below was a nice one made of one piece of solid wood. Glad that Midori and her hubby took it to Hiwaki.

Below are some pictures of the Japanese style rooms. Bachan used to teach tea ceremony in the room below.

The ceilings in these rooms were made from Yaku Sugi, a cedar that grows on a southern island. It is no longer allowed to harvest this particular wood.

The room below is a mizuya, or place for storing tea ceremony equipment, but it gradually turned into a junk room.

Front door and shoe cabinet on the right. The black plastic bags were a makeshift curtain to keep light out so we could sleep in if we wanted to.
